Back in Black Top Road warriors give new life to old roads

BY ALEXANDER SOULE
FAIRFIELD COUNTY BUSINESS JOURNAL
Monday, March 9, 2009 Shelton

On a chilly day near the Shelton riverfront, the operators of a front-end loader dumped a load of pavement debris into an orange hopper. In the space of minutes, out streamed a steamy batch of fresh asphalt ready for spreading. It might just provide the foundation for the next great construction equipment company in Fairfield County.

Vacaville company offers on-site asphalt recycling for patching

BY JEFF QUACKENBUSH
BUSINESS JOURNAL STAFF REPORTER
Monday, February 2, 2009 VACAVILLE

A new company has brought the potential cost and resource savings of pavement recycling to the small-scale realm of asphalt patching.

Instead of paying for asphalt ripped up during underground utility work to be hauled to a landfill or recycler and paying for new material to be hauled from sometimes distant hot-mix plants, Go Green Asphalt of Vacaville offers to tote its mobile recycler to the job site. The renewed hot-mix asphalt can be used to cover the same hole or trench as well as to fill potholes or gaps with newly placed. Click Here to Read More

Star Valley Paving, Thanye, Wyoming:

“We use our recycler to repair parking lots for private lodges in the Jackson Hole, Wyoming area. Our main concern is getting the work done in the short time period in the spring between when the frost is out and the beginning of the tourist season, around Memorial Day.”

“The fact that we are recycling in-place is a key factor in our customers selecting Star Valley as their contractor for these jobs. Getting the job(s) done in the right time frame is critical, but no less so is the fact that we are recycling the asphalt. Environmental concerns are very important here and this machine fits right in with those concerns.”

“The Bagela asphalt recycler does what it is advertised to do and it does it very well! It turns old asphalt into fresh hot mix on the spot.”

Dennis West – Owner, Star Valley Paving

Thanye, Wyoming

Kansas Dept. of Transportation:

“We purchased a Bagela asphalt recycler and a company representative gave the training on our new unit. We had at least 15-20 men present to go over the unit. We started with the diesel engine and the 400KW power unit. It was pointed out the importance of keeping clean the fuel filters within the fuel system. They covered the controls and operational aspects of the unit.”

“We were assisted by way of a demonstration of the operation of the unit, we produced (recycled) a yard of material every 7-8 minutes. We produced (recycled) 10-15 tons in a short time, completing our project within a 2 hour period. Each man shared with me that it was a joy to work with this unit, no one had to wait on it at any time, and the material was not damaged and looked good.”

“The unit heated with an indirect heat that did not burn or damage the material, but broke the material down into a viable hot mix. We tried different types of materials and the unit produced (recycled) very well with each. To get the best results, with poorer (older) materials, it was necessary for us to use or add an additive to it. This unit is definitely superior to any that we have or have seen, that produces the volumes of quality material.”

Arthur J. Lootens & Son, Inc.:

“We completed three full depth repairs in the asphalt driveway of our business using a Bagela asphalt recycler and used asphalt pieces. This area undergoes a heavy volume of truck traffic. After a year and a half, the repairs show no failure of any kind and have stood up as well as plant produced HMA laid with a paver.”

“The Bagela works as advertised and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone wanting to use it for top quality asphalt work any time of the year. IT REALLY WORKS.”
